Translation System

http://translate.uservoice.com allows anyone to contribute to adding translations or improving existing translations, with absolutely no coding knowledge necessary. This system is in beta – how can we improve it so it’s easier for you to translate our product?

How can we improve our translation site?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the “My feedback” filter and select “My open ideas”.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can vote and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can vote on it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

    1. Allow admins to choose their own text

The translation into Dutch is not good. I keep adding correct translations in the tool, but they are not implemented. Let admins choose their own texts and the problem is solved.

      • Spanish for specific countries

Spanish spoken in Spain is quite different from that of Argentina, for example. I can see that some translations have been made by people from different countries, and the result is inconsistent and sometimes looks unprofessional

If you’re interested in helping to translate it, we’d be happy to add Spanish (Argentina) or any other versions of Spanish to our list. Let me know and I can hook you up with the initial translations required!

        • ...create a second German translation.

          Hi!
In German, we have two ways to translate "you". One is the formal version "Sie", which would be used if you call someone by the last name.
And we have "Du", which is personal, used when you call someone by the first name.

I'd like to address my users this way, but I cannot just change the default "German" translation of course.

A second "German" translation would allow us to change this.

I was wondering is it possible for translators that do a heap of work get a free (paid) UserVoice forum as long as they keep helping.

              • Guidelines??

If many people work on a translation, there should be some general guidelines. Those will greatly improve the quality. Topics to cover are:

                * Some languages have a formal and informal translation for "you" (french, dutch). Which one to use? Is looks very clumsy if they are mixed (which is happening right now).

                * Translations for application specific concepts should be standardized. For example, the translation of "sign in", "case", "ticket" etcetera should be used consistently throughout the translation.

And I guess, 5-10 more. But I'm not a professional translator.

                • Language specific word order

For eg. if in English we say "View demo for {a dynamically added title}" - in Japanese it would be "{a dynamically added title} demo view"... So maybe it would be helpful to have a word order setting in the translation area, for example 1) Subject - Verb - Object 2) Subject - Object - Verb...

                  • Easy switch between languages for feedback site

For admin console I can switch between languages easily.
                    https://domain.uservoice.com/admin/dashboard?lang=de
                    https://domain.uservoice.com/admin/dashboard?lang=fr

Would be very nice to have the same for feedback site,
                    http://domain.uservoice.com/forums/11-general?lang=ru
                    http://domain.uservoice.com/forums/11-general?lang=en

This way it will be possible to redirect people to forum depending on the language they use.

                        • Enable partially translated languages

I see some translations done for russian languages. However, russian language is generally not available (probably because it is not fully translated yet).
There are 486 untranslated and 147 reviewed.
I would highly appreciate if I could use already available 147 translations for russian language and the rest to be english.

                                    • Plural Support

Some languages need plural support for the count nouns. MediaWiki has patterns for the most of the languages and it is the only software I know which supports plural (and gender) fully. I am sure it is a pretty hard thing to do, at least for now.

                                      • The translation section isn't accepting my log-in!

I'm trying to log in, but although I get access to my normal UserVoice account (in a pop-up window), I then can't access the translation part of the site. I'm using Chrome.

                                        • Ability to add non-listed language

What if I want to translate UserVoice into some language that is not on your list under "Add translation"? Allow me to submit my own language.
