General Feedback
How can we make the UserVoice platform better?

Per-user vote limits
I would like to reward users with more votes:
- those that are members for sometime
- those that fill in some demographic information (possibly only visible to admins)
- those who invite other users (and the users vote on our site)415 votesunder review ·

We’re still considering this, but it would be part of a larger revamp for user management and vote limits.

Periodically increase number of votes available
A site whose feedback forum I was actively using a few months ago is really slow at responding to any ideas presented there. As a result, I and many others quickly ran out of votes as they are virtually never returned, yet we'd like to keep supporting the ideas we support. There may be new good ideas there but what's the point in reading them when you cannot vote or have to juggle with the available votes?
So, my suggestion is that the system should periodically increase the number of votes a user has at their disposal. This could be… more

Reward karma scores with more votes.
Users could accumulate, possibly controllable by an admin preference, more votes based on how often they comment on suggestions or submit new suggestions. This way active users could be rewarded for their efforts.

Ability to create new suggestion with zero (0) votes left
Currently you aren't permitted to enter new suggestions once your vote budget is spent, and you are required to spend one vote on each suggestion. As long as votes are limited, I don't see what harm this could possibly be. On the contrary, it would allow people with lots of good suggestions to suggest ALL of them. They may start at 0 votes, but at least they're in the system for others to vote up if they want.

Provide a special URL to include vote buttons in newsletters
I want to include "Vote" links in our e-mail newsletter so recipients can click the link and be brought to a page where they can immediately vote.
Currently I can include a link to the idea page, but they then have to click the Vote button on that page, and then select the number of votes before voting.
I'm not necessarily looking for the ability for the person to click a button in the newsletter and have a vote automatically register (eg: using single sign-on).
Instead, what I'd like is a way to specify that the voting dialog be open… more

Allow people to mark a comment on an idea as a "good point"
When someone comments on an idea - other users should be allowed to mark that comment as a "good point". Comments that have been marked as a good point by users would be placed near the top of the comments. This would allow for useful feedback on suggestions to be more visible.

allow "for" and "against" votes
(a.k.a. think about "allow negative votes" again)
suggestion: allow "for" and "against" votes (not talking about negative anymore...)
property: track two numbers instead of just one: count "for" and "against" votes individually, don't just keep one final number.
reason: currently there's no way to know if a "high traffic" suggestion has a large proportion of users who disagree with the suggestion, other than reading through thousands of comments.
possible options/configurations:
- the whole thing could be optional (based on admin decision)
- "against" votes could also count against the user's vote total.
- "total votes" (for+against) could be displayed in… more12 votes -
Allow option to restrict voting to confirmed email addresses
Unconfirmed profiles can vote, resulting in potential fraud. The optional safeguards (e.g. restricting by IP) don't cover every use case.
For example, restricting to 1 IP per hour will prevent legitimate votes from a certain domain.
One use case involves financially incentivizing ideas with the most votes (propose giving a lecture, and the top most voted on proposals will get monetary compensation). Since many votes will come from the same domain, restricting to one defeats the purpose.
Proposal: in settings -> general -> user authentication, add an option to restrict voting to confirmed profiles only.

Allow admins to change the number of votes for an idea... manually or using bulk
I work for a local government body that needs to be able to manually or through bulk upload change the number of votes for ideas.
We are collecting answers to our forum question offline at our events on paper. We've tried bulk uploading these offline ideas and merging them to existing ones, but if we don't select the "winning" idea a certain way the vote counts don't aggregate. If we merge the ideas with the other idea being the winner, the vote counts aggregate but the Admin gets credit for the idea from there on out.
I feel like I'm… more

Make voting concept more clear for new users
When new user enters an idea, or votes for someone else's idea for first time, he just presented with option to choose from "1 votes", "2 votes", "3 votes". It can be confusing what this actually means. On my feedback forum most users give just 1 vote for their only idea. I suppose this is because they don't understand they could give it 3 votes to have better chances for their idea to be on top in overall list.
There is also no mention (until you register) that you have 10 votes that you can distribute among ideas you like.… more4 votes -
Give Admins unlimited votes
As we have moved from an internal feedback system I wanted to re-create the state we had, with the internal number of votes. I did so as an Admin, but now I ran out of votes. It would be good to allow Admins to have an unlimited number of votes.

Reinstate "Reset voting..." Option
I recently noticed the "reset voting" option is missing from the Admin Panel. Normally, from the Admin Panel, I could click "Feedback", then select a forum, click the "Ideas Tab", click the "Option Icon [the cog], and select "reset voting".
We use this feature as part of our workflow of gathering ideas, then holding a round for prioritization. The "reset" option keeps all of our data clean and accurate throughout the process. We have a handful of different groups that use this process for different purposes, but the basic set up is like this:
A forum is created with unlimited… more

allow number of votes to be customized to any number per forum
The voting feature should be set to allow the number of votes per forum to be customized to any number (I.e. 50 votes). The user should also be able to place all allocated votes on any one idea, or spread across ideas as opposed to the limit of 1, 2 or 3. Is this possible.

Add a way for a user to earn more votes.
Our high activity users would like a way to earn more votes by being active participants in the forum. So posting suggestions that get an updated status or providing feedback on other features suggestions etc.

more visual confirmation after voting
More visual feedback when you vote, so it's clearer to the user that they have voted, e.g. via a popup window or when the count goes up for it to be animated in some way to draw the eye to the count, and your own vote numbers.

Allow ideas to keep getting voted up even after they're declined
In the Echo Bazaar forums, the fact that an idea gets closed to new votes when it's declined by the developers leads to the unhelpful side effect that many other users post the same idea again ... and again it gets declined. It would probably be more helpful to the developers if the original declined idea could continue to receive votes, particularly as the game's user base increases and the developers gain familiarity with user expectations.

Allow for grace karma points in due to cases of over excited newer team members.
Some of the essential breakthrough candidates can be turned away from a great opportunity due to a lack of basic netiquitte. An informed message explaining the overall expectations of current users may avoid talent potentially being lost.

Allow admins to manually set the number of votes for an idea
When moving from a previous system, admins will already have some ideas with certain numbers of requests or votes.
UserVoice should allow admins to create ideas with a starting vote number they define to reflect votes form the previous system.
This would also be useful to add artifical votes to ideas that the team have received requests for by other means (phone, e-mail etc.)
