   In our experience, users simply don't think to look for and turn on a comment-notification setting. And in any case the settings should be:

   1) automatically subscribe to comments on your own submitted ideas [on by default]
   2) unsubscribe from comments on a particular idea

   This is fundamental functionality on just about every modern ticketing / forum implementation these days. Right now all of our idea forum topics go dead unless we change the status, since the submitting user never gets our comments or requests for clarifications.
