Rich-text formatting for idea descriptions
Currently there's no way to even mark a word as bold or italic. Well, I guess you could make it ALL-CAPS (lame) or put something around it, but somehow both of those just seem somehow kludgey... I hate gratuitous colors and font-size changes as much as the next guy, but SOME formatting actually helps communicate better. How about adding support for at least some very simple markup like Markdown or Textile...?
Hey All,
You can now use markdown when writing Idea descriptions.
For example, bold, italics, or – for unordered lists.
Give it a try. Let us know what you think.

+1 for code blocks and especially in comments.

I voted this ticket thinking it was for comments markup.
I like **markdown** for instance, it’s simple yet great markup system. -

Heya Carter; KB Articles already have HTML, although markdown would be great (if only because it's simpler, cleaner, and easier to use).
I would primarily like to see markdown support for all comments / status updates in the feedback area. Ticket-HTML (or Markdown to HTML) support would be great, but that would be much more complex (considering you'd then also have to accept all other HTML messages as HTML, which are currently only viewed as text).

+1 for markdown!

Markdown support would be both crazy simple to implement (there are tons of resources that do the heavy lifting for you), is very secure (it's been battle tested), add a lot of functionality.
I would very much like to see this happen.

Support for a monospace/code tag would also be welcomed.

This is a great idea - we need at least the standard formatting along with things like block quote and if at all possible setting our own format styles, e.g. code.
Zendesk has alot more discussion on this, with many similar and good ideas: http://feedback.uservoice.com/forums/1-general-feedback/suggestions/8215-allow-simple-formatting-markup-for-content-ital

It's shocking you don't even have markdown/textile support in comments.
Give us line breaks, bold, italic, and simple lists. That's all I want. I can shoot you the rails html whitelist sanitizer code if you want. I use it on Cashboard :p
