Convert a comment to a new idea
Sometimes a user will make a great suggestion as a comment on another suggestion. Often the original suggestion inspired the second which would be why it's in the wrong place.
I'd like an option added to the actions on comments to be able to turn them into suggestions
We have launched the ability to create an idea from a comment. If you have a comment on an idea that should be a separate idea, then this feature will help you track interest and demand for the new idea. Read more here.

Man this ideas has been out here since 2012? This seems like a pretty common thing! I would love to see this added. This happens very often to me as well. I can give a real life example that I just ran into:
Suggestion was for an exportable list of data from our site. We released said feature that satisfied all comments but one which was asking for additional data that we consider to be a future enhancement. I want to be able to move this comment out to a new suggestion and start tracking interest in this particular enhancement. Right now I can only copy/paste but lose all linked customer info from the original poster.

I've hit the issue recently where we have a bug that we're tracking, but a user will comment with a completely different issue that we want to track separately. Having the power to fork that into a different idea means that we can get back to our customers more easily and track their issues separately.

@Gabor not sure – it’s been a while! I’ve re-opened the idea.

Why was this declined? It would make a lot of sense IMO, and help our situation as well.

We're past that 6 month window, is there any chance this can now be resurrected? If an admin creates the idea, it doesn't get the vote of the original commenter.

Based on recent support feedback I received to a similar suggestion, I was encouraged to vote for this and explain our case. So I agree that this needs to be reconsidered, but with additional requirements. Here’s an abbreviated version of my original:
We need the ability to separate a multi-part suggestion, and retain the author and date info for each newly separated part. For example, if a posted suggestion actually contains three, we'd like the ability to separate them into three independent suggestions, regardless of how related they are. In our case, each newly separated suggestion would have a different attachment, and supporting comments are then expected around those new suggestions and respective attachments. We'd also like the ability to quickly indicate that we've done this so the author and prospective contributors can see this.
As for the relationship back to the original, I think it's more than just a link back. A quick visual indicator, perhaps iconic, that shows this really helps both types of users understand the relationship, but perhaps more importantly, the evolution of the (once whole) suggestion. It helps train the community as it grows and matures.
