Allow users to edit their own ideas and comments
As long as no one has voted/commented on my newly-created suggestion yet, I should be able to...
(1) change the title/description without restriction... if, say, 5 minutes later I think of a better one or spot a typo in it or whatever...
(2) completely delete it, no questions asked, if, say, I realize right after posting it that it was lame, or I find out it's a duplicate or whatever...
Greetings from UserVoice,
A couple weeks ago we released a feature that allowed end users to edit their own comments.
Now, they can also edit suggestions they create on the web portal.
Thank you all for the feedback.

I can see this being problematic in public forums, but private forums, which are often used by smaller teams or committees, could benefit greatly...potentially without great risk for messing up the works...? Is it any more or less "difficult" to push this out as an option for private forums? Perhaps a toggle option in the admin panel to " allow users to edit ideas".
Thanks for listening!

Well well... Never change a running system, ey? ;-)

And? You gonna add this option finally or not??

Sometimes after I create an idea, I realise I did not word it optimally for people to find it in their searches. One solution would be to allow me to edit (or append to) the searcheable synopsis. Another solution would be to allow the addition of tags to the idea any time after idea creation. There is a suggestion for this here:

@Roberta Hardy, also, there could/should also be a setting for delayed emails, so if the user goes through such iterations of deleting/fixing/deleting/fixing over and over, the email to subscribers wont kick in on-demand, instead maybe 3 or 5 minutes later or so (via cron). I'm out of votes and frankly dont feel like rearranging my votes to post the idea but you can run with it if you want.

@Roberta Hardy, so they got a changelog of your entire thought process. Fun! ;)

@*********************** (both posts):
I actually did this by accident a while ago. I hadn't tried the email notification option until afterwards and didn't realise it would send a copy of each comment, in it's entirety, to other users. It wouldn't have mattered so much, but the post I had trouble editing half a dozen times was part of a cumulative tit-for-tat debate that was now a dozen paragraphs long... -

When pure comment editing is actually enabled, may I suggest the ability for Admins to unsubscribe from a thread. This way if a user edits/deletes/reposts their comment multiple times in any given timespan, the admins can stop being notified if they wish to be. The reason its needed is because each edit should trigger an email, however that can get annoying and can even become open to abuse of the admin's inbox if a user decides to edit their comment many times.
This happened to me, a user deleted and reposted a comment an extreme amount of times and it was more than annoying, I had no way to stop the messages and it certainly wasn't a bannable offense. The user was just correcting verbiage and trying to get a certain point across, probably not realizing someone was getting very annoyed on the receiving end of each microscopic change. -

The workaround to edit a comment is to delete it and repost it.
Lame, but a workaround nevertheless. -

This topic should be split because comments are deletable.
The title, as it is, is misleading.
For example, refer to:
http://feedback.uservoice.com/forums/11917-premium-users/suggestions/441059-ability-to-prevent-users-from-editing-their-commenAs for the ability to split ideas, please vote here if you agree:

You may want to vote for this very similar suggestion instead (since it currently has more support) http://uservoice.uservoice.com/pages/general/suggestions/6357-let-users-edit-delete-own-suggests-as-long-as-no-votes-yet

Never mind #11232 was closed because it included allowing admin editing. Let's go #6357 !

You should vote for http://uservoice.uservoice.com/pages/general/suggestions/3421
It's addressing the same issue and seems to have a bit more momentum at the moment. -

A feature you don't think about until you need it. It can be extremely annoying when you're trying to help out but make a typo.

While this suggesting is better worded maybe you should vote for http://uservoice.uservoice.com/pages/general/suggestions/11232 It's addressing the same issue and seems to have a bit more momentum at the moment.

Apparently they did have a delete feature at one time, but they removed it: http://uservoice.uservoice.com/pages/general/suggestions/44

I was about to suggest having a "preview" button in addition to "post" but that wouldn't really be necessary if we could edit our comments after they're posted, would it now...
